Tunes

This is an archive of my physical music collection. I don't remember what got me started on vinyl. Maybe dancing with my grandparents to music on their old media center turn table. I do remember how magical it felt when my grandpa moved the lamp and books aside and slid the table top open to reveal a box full of records and a turn table... I got my first record player when I was 13, one of the suitcase style victrola's that was all the rage at the time.

When I was 15 or so, I got a cheap 6 in 1 record player with a built in tape player, CD drive, and Radio. I didn't buy it because I was dying to get into more kinds of physical media. I bought it because the retro wooden style stuck out to me. And it was on sale at big lots. That is when I really started Collecting. CDs were cheaper and easier to find then Vinyl. I don't know the first CD I got, but I have about 20 at the time of writing this, excluding mix tapes I've burned myself. I picked up my first cassette tapes a few years ago at a yard sale. I don't have many, but theyre my favorite part of my collection. I became enamoured with the way they worked, even before I owned any. One of my first tapes is Queen's The Game. It is an old one, and the audio is fuzzy where tape was so worn before it came into my hands. The history of it is clear in the crackling fuzzy quality. Streaming music will never sound as good.

I got my first real nice record player when I celebrated my 19th birthday recently. I spent a pretty penny on it, and I'm glad I did. It's the grown up version of the cheap number I got when I was younger. The speakers are great, the CD drive never jams, and when I drop the needle on the turn table, the music plays low and lovely without being drowned out by internal noises from the machine.

My music collection, which started when I was just getting into my emo phase, has grown up with me. I can track the changes in my taste and my life with the albums I thought were worth spending money on. All of my Vinyl holds great importance to me. I don't buy records on a whim, and I rarely stumble upon them. CDs and tapes on the other hand, I get by chance. Some are gifts, from family and friends, or picked up on a whim from a discount shelf or a local record store. This page has been sorted by category and then alphabetically. Sorting by the order I got them in would be impossible, with my shoddy memory. I am working towards including annecdotes and proper album reviews but this is likely going to be a work in progress for quite some time.
